Hunger Hike events are just two weeks away — and a lot of exciting things are planned for the Kick-off event and the 5K run. Hunger Hike gives YOU a chance to have a positive impact on your community AND have some FUN too! There’s a live DJ, Zumba, face painting, balloon animals, clowns, the Boilermaker Special, Purdue Pete & cheerleaders — and hot dogs, chips & water when you return from the 3K walk/hike.
Hunger Hike is also a wonderful team activity for your group. Each member raises money leading up to the big day — and the whole team gets together at Hunger Hike & celebrates their good work.

Purdue Coaches Team Up to Fight Hunger — Hunger Hike 2016

West Lafayette, IN – Three prominent Purdue coaches have teamed up to fight hunger by participating and promoting Hunger Hike 2016. Coaches Sharon Versyp (women’s basketball), Dave Shondell (women’s volleyball) & Dave Kucik (rowing & crew) will be speaking out about the issues of hunger in Indiana and encouraging participation in one of the longest running, most well respected fundraising events — Hunger Hike.

Hunger Hike is an annual Fall community fundraising weekend which includes the traditional 3K Walk on Sunday as well as a 5K run on Saturday. This year Hunger Hike is Saturday, September 17 & Sunday, September 18, 2016.
All Hunger Hike proceeds directly support the Lafayette Urban Ministry food assistance programs including the St. John’s/LUM Food Pantry, Food Finders Food Bank, Inc., and St. Thomas Aquinas Center’s Haitian Ministry including the Haiti Water Purification Project. Since early 1990s Lafayette Urban Ministry, St. Thomas Aquinas Center and Food Finders Food Bank, Inc. have been organizing a walk to support food programs locally, regionally and globally. Formerly known as the Crop Walk, it was officially renamed Hunger Hike in 1993.
Today, Hunger Hike gives companies, organizations, families & individuals many ways to be a part of a community event with a tremendous positive impact on “Fighting Hunger.”

Hunger Hike is an annual community fundraising event whose mission is to raise the awareness of and make a difference in the Fight Against Hunger. Hunger Hike is open to participants of all ages and abilities who share a common goal: Fighting Hunger! The Hunger Hike main event is our annual celebration at Riehle Plaza — immediately followed by the 1.5 K Walk. All Hunger Hike Walk proceeds directly support Lafayette Urban Ministry, Food Finders Food Bank Inc., and St. Thomas Aquinas’ Haitian Ministry.
Move Supplies: 10:45 am - Noon. Meet at the LUM office at 420 North 4th Street. Help load supplies and transport to Riehle Plaza, then help with set-up. If you have a car, truck, or van please bring - but all help is greatly appreciated.
Set Up - 11:15 am - 12:30. Help set up for Hunger Hike at Riehle Plaza. Set up tents, tables, and chairs; build the t-shirt display; stack water and sodas, etc
Check-in & T-shirt Sales- 12:15 - 2:00. Work the donations table. Accept money from donors. Sell t-shirts.
Water Distribution: 12:30 - 3:30. Unpack bottled water - make sure there’s always plenty available for people to grab. If we have soda and chips this year, you’ll be in charge of those as well.
Route Guides - 1:30 - 3:30. You will be assigned a station along the route and provided with a photo and video guide showing you were to stand and where to direct the walkers. Feel free to work the site on your own or bring as many friends as you like to help cheer the walkers on. NOTE - when you sign up, you are signing up for a site. So if you and a friend each sign up, you'll be at two different sites.
Clean-Up - 3:15 - 5:30. Help break everything down, load it up for transportation back to LUM, and unload on the other end. If you have a car, truck, or van please bring it along - but all help is greatly appreciated.
